Atelier 2017



We will be holding professional development workshops for emerging and established artists to develop their craft.

The workshops, led by award-winning professionals in their field, are an initiative we put forward to fundraise for ARTISTA, our free youth mentorship for women. It is our goal to raise $3,750 with the Atelier workshops. All of this money will go towards ensuring that 15 young women can have free access to meaningful arts mentorship.

You can also pay by cheque made out to Imago Theatre. Payment plans are available upon request by e-mail to Workshops are $75 and you will be issued a $50 tax receipt for your workshop fee.

In taking one of these workshops you will be receiving valuable professional development, creative exchange and support at a discounted rate of $75 with a $50 dollar tax receipt. You will also be directly supporting a mentorship program that uplifts and empowers young female leaders and creators.

Governor General award-winning playwright Erin Shields offers guided exercises for participants to work through their own process of writing and adapting plays. This workshop will assist in identifying, owning and reimagining plot structure, character, dialogue and image.

Performer and playwright Kyungseo Min offers an approach to Butoh, a Japanese dance theatre form, that focuses on breaking down habits and inhibitions within the body to re-establish the connection between the brain and body, and image work to prepare the body for a rich and alive performance.

Award-winning performer and theatre creator Anana Rydvald opens the door to the world of mask. Through neutral, full face and half mask, participants are guided through various physical and vocal archetypes to discover rich, fully embodied characters.

Award-winning movement teacher Rebecca Harper (Head of Movement at the National Theatre School) leads a training specifically geared towards actors. Going back to the fundamentals using movement analysis, image and Laban, the workshop will work toward Pure Movement’s connection to text.

Award-winning voice performers, Lucinda Davis and Pauline Little, share their insights into voice acting. In this studio workshop, participants will be privy to their years of experience including how to approach a microphone, how to audition, how to protect the voice and dubbing.
