Set during a pandemic and food crisis, down from heaven explores the events that lead to the collapse of civil society, revealed through the lives of the wealthy Braumbach’s and their former gardener, Cheater; now a member of a renegade security force. Under house quarantine in the basement of their luxurious home, the Braumbach’s now rely on Cheater for their very lives. Laurel Braumbach, their sixteen-year old daughter, acts as go-between and enters the dark and convoluted world of Cheater, discovering in the process, some startling revelations about herself, and the man they have become dependent upon.

Colleen Wagner is an award winning playwright, screenwriter and teacher. She was co-artistic director and co-founder of The NotaBle Acts Theatre Company, Fredericton, New Brunswick from 2002-2007. Her plays include Sand, Eclipsed, Home, The Morning Bird, and The Monument, which won the Governor General’s Award in 1996, and a Dora Award for best direction in 2006. Her work has been performed internationally with translations in several languages, including most recently a production of The Monument in Rwanda and a Romanian premiere directed by Alexander Hausvater at the State Theatre, Resita, Romania. She’s written several filmscripts including an adaptation of The Monument, currently being financed, and wrote and directed a short film, Remembrance Day. She is currently developing two new plays and a screenplay. She teaches screenwriting at York University and divides her time between a small village in New Brunswick and the City of Toronto, Ontario.

ALAIN GOULEM Director |
Alain’s directing credits include shows at The Centaur Theatre, Theatre Lac Brome, Geordie Productions and Hudson’s Village Theatre West. Throughout his career Alain has always used improv as a tool to stay sharp, first with the comedy troupe Caught in the Act then with The Stoneheads and The Space Dog Seven. Mixing all of his career loves together to create a new and unique theatre, Alain teamed with Clowns Gone Bad theatre company and created (directed and co-wrote) the hit comedies MocShplat and Umlout. Alain has had a long time love of William Shakespeare having worked at Repercussion Theatre and the Stratford Festival as well as acting in and producing a production of Hamlet. He directed The Complete Works of WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Abridged and Shakespeare’s Lost Play for Repercussion Theatre’s Shakespeare in the park and the bilingual production of The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine at Hudson Village Theatre West, as well as the critically acclaimed Housekeeping and Homewrecking at Theatre St-Catherine. In 2008 he directed Peacemaker, a clown show for young audiences as a part of Geordie Theatre’s main stage season. His latest directing credit is Ned Cox’s existential comedy Hellavator which was staged in a working freight elevator in an industrial building on St Laurent Boulevard. Alain Goulem has also been a professional actor for more than twenty years.
