Snowman

"Imago delivers shivers with Snowman" (The Montreal Mirror, January, 2004)

Written by: Greg MacArthur
Directed by: Peter Hinton
Venue: Studio du Monument-National, Montreal
Dates: January 22nd - 31st, 2004

Snowman is a dark examination of isolation and the search for identity, played against a remote, desolate landscape. Set at the edge of a glacial sheet, this play explores the lives of four lost characters, eking out a marginal existence, struggling to remain connected to themselves and to one another. The discovery of a body frozen deep into the ice and the arrival of an outsider sets in motion a series of events, which forever alters their lives of everyone.

This Québec premiere of MacArthur's award-winning script brought together an amazing array of artistic talent, representing some of the most experienced, respected and innovative theatre artists in Montréal. This production was one of the most talked about theatrical events in the 2003-2004 season.

In addition, Snowman was nominated for Best English Language Production, Best Director and Best Sound at the Soirée des Masques in January 2005.

The creation and the performances of this piece have been lauded across Canada. Snowman received seven nominations for the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards in Vancouver, and was presented at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Snowman was published by Coachouse Books, in an anthology entitled Exposure.
