THE WORKSHOPS

MAY 25, 2019/10-5PM

3 DAY DIRECTION MASTER CLASS
with Micheline Chevrier

PWM

In this 3-day active learning masterclass, participants will investigate questions such as, “how do I research, prepare for design meetings, investigate the text, prepare for the first day of rehearsals, transition from table work to embodied work, time my notes, and ultimately direct a unified production?”

MOVEMENT
with Leslie Baker
Youtheatre

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the Six Viewpoints improvisation technique as a physical tool for spontaneity, ensemble work, physical expression and emotional articulation. An excellent workshop for actors, directors and physically informed, creation-based theatre artists. No previous movement experience is required.

Participants will bring a short piece to the workshop that they are interested adapting for the stage. This can be a short story, song, poem, series of images, in short something that tickles your catastrophe.Over the course of the day, participants will take this material and experiment with reimagining it and translating it into a theatrical form. Warning: there will be writing!

AUDITIONING

This workshop offers actors the opportunity to hone their audition technique by understanding how to select appropriate and compelling audition texts, while providing insight on how to stage audition pieces, and quickly integrate feedback from a director.

VOICE
with Shannon Holmes
Youtheatre

Designed with the intention of supporting the actor or creator’s specific needs when approaching singing, this workshop will explore various means of developing a free and expressive voice. A voice that is capable of flexibly navigating the divide between speech and song through an examination of how each discipline supports the other. Using a broad range of methods, we will explore voice with the aim of meeting each participant where they are in their singing journey as they build confidence and a deeper understanding of their instrument. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Please bring a water bottle, and be prepared to move.

Please note that all workshops occur at the same time (10AM-5PM) and it is impossible to attend two on the same day.

We want to sincerely thank our Atelier sponsors,  Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal and Youtheatre.
