Collective Empowerment through
Theatrical Experimentation and Collaboration
Imago’s free mentorship program for young women*
ARTISTA empowers a community of young women* 16 to 21 years old to tell their own stories, and supports them to take these stories to the stage. Theatrical collaboration, experimentation and mentorship from professional artist mentors build independence and confidence in artistic craftsmanship and offer insight into the diverse facets of Montreal’s theatre industry.
*Imago Theatre promotes an inclusive definition of woman which includes all people who experience the world as women; trans women, cis-women, people who identify as femme, who are feminine-of-centre, and feminine presenting people.
WHAT WE DO
ARTISTA is a theatre mentorship program that explores performance through collaboration. Imago Theatre’s supportive and brave learning environment encourages participants to develop self confidence, trust, and gain physical and vocal confidence.
ARTISTA participants gather once a week from January to May on Monday nights for dinner, theatre training, and creation.
Dinner time is an opportunity for participants, mentors, and special guests - invited professionals hailing from various fields - to eat, share, discuss, and collectively turn our minds toward the world.
This is followed by a three-hour workshop, led by mentors and invited guest teachers. These are guided explorations of movement, voice, text creation, mask, and other performance disciplines.
Over the course of 15 weeks, mentors guide participants in crafting stories, supporting them toward a public performance of their creation.
Participants also receive tickets to see professional productions in a variety of performance venues around Montreal.
