Sophie Gee is a director of mostly new creations which she presents under the name Nervous Hunter.
Works include The Phaedra Project (No! I! Don’t! Want! To! Fall! In! Love! With! You!) (Montreal, arts interculturels), I Am Such a Small Container for All This (SEAS Festival, Iceland), and Domestik (Eastern Bloc, Montreal). Sophie returned to Iceland in 2018 to create the installation and solo performance Bright Light/Changing Light. Her multidisciplinary inquiry on success, Lévriers, created with an actress, a dancer, a retired CEO, a former rugby player and a trans rapper will be presented at the MAI (montréal, arts interculturels) in November 2018.
As a director of text, she had the privilege to work on a lab performance of Suzan-Lori Park’s Fucking A for Imago Theatre, Lucky by Marie Barlizo at the Montreal Fringe, and Pluck’d by Ke Xin Li at the Wildside Festival. A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada’s Directing Programme, Sophie enjoys working with artists outside the world of theatre and strives for ways to combine her love of text and story with the research processes of dance and contemporary art.
At Imago, Sophie is responsible for keeping up to date and making connections with theatre artists and companies across Canada and abroad, assisting with contracts, budgets and grant writing for our productions, and is the point person for new project proposals and scripts.
