Amanda_Palmer I have recently come across Amanda Palmer’s talk on Ted Talks. I find it very moving. Inspirational. Affirming. Have you seen it? If you have not, below is the link. The title of the talk is The Art of Asking.

Asking implies that there is a need.

I need something so I ask.

I ask someone.

And there begins the connection between two people.

An exchange.

A conversation.

I have always believed that theatre is a conversation. That people who make theatre long for connection, a closeness to others. We create to bring stories to life, to come together and share our points of view, our experiences, our feelings. The hope is that these encounters transform strangers into partners in this great universe we share. What I love most about theatre is that you cannot make it without truly collaborating. Creators need each other, need their audiences, and the audiences need  to hear the stories of others, and their own, on the stage.

We have to get better at asking. Amanda Palmer seems to have begun crafting the art of asking in her way. I need to craft mine, and you, yours. Have a look. Be inspired to ask. And to give. Micheline
